SilverTongue

Communication is a vital aspect of every person’s life; it is the fundamental force for self-expression and the way we communicate with others says a lot about who we are; yet it is an area of our lives’ that we often neglect to understand. Studies of the United States Armed Forces Qualification Test, which tests vocabulary size and verbal comprehension, showed an increase of one standard deviation on the exam increased one’s annual income by nearly $10,000. Despite the benefits of having strong communication skills people continue to shy away from understanding the way they verbally communicate for one main reason; communication is difficult to measure, and anything that can’t be measured can’t be effectively improved. My mission is to improve the lives of others by getting rid of the difficulty barrier to tracking, understanding, and improving verbal communication. The journey to understanding and improving verbal communication is a lifelong one, and the rewards are priceless; better relationships, professional success, having your ideas heard, having the confidence to speak up, all this and so much more can be achieved with Silver Tongue.

SilverTongue is an idea focused on using speech recognition software and passive wearable technology to gather data on communication skills and provide actionable insight to consumers to enable them to improve their professional and personal lives through more effective communication. Metrics such as the amount of filler words, tone, descriptiveness, and context level will be used to provide insight on peoples ability to communicate effectively. An increasing amount of information is becoming available from the analysis of these metrics as we are seeing the Natural Language Processing and speech recognition software industry grow. We are able to measure some of these things with conceptual recurrence plots and speech to text software that wasn’t feasibly possible just a few years ago.

This is something that I believe any type of public speaker, salesmen, lawyer, and basically anyone else who relies on their ability to communicate to relay information and foster relationships, can find value in. SilverTongue would for the first time, allow consumers to objectively identify their ability to communicate, set goals, and track their improvement.
